My periods have also become irregular last 3 months, on top of the night sweats. Is this normal during peri?

Has anyone tried HRT for severe hot flashes? My GP suggested it but I'm worried about the side effects.
SK
Dr. Smita Kalia Doctor · 11:31 AM
HRT can be very effective for severe vasomotor symptoms. The risk-benefit profile depends on your age, family history, and how long you've been in peri. For most women in their 40s and early 50s without contraindications, the benefits outweigh the risks. Happy to discuss your specific case 💜

Is occasional spotting between periods normal during peri? It's been happening on and off for 2 months.
SK
Dr. Smita Kalia Doctor · 11:52 AM
Occasional spotting is fairly common in perimenopause due to anovulatory cycles. However, if it becomes frequent, heavy, or accompanied by pain — please get a transvaginal ultrasound and an endometrial assessment. Better to rule things out.

How do you handle anxiety that comes with hormonal changes? Some days I feel like I'm losing it.

Such an important question. The mind-body connection during hormonal shifts is real — fluctuating estrogen affects serotonin and dopamine. What helps: a steady sleep window, light cardio 4× a week, and naming what you're feeling. If it gets overwhelming, please don't tough it out alone — message me here 💜

Is there a connection between irregular periods and hot flashes during perimenopause? Both started for me around the same time.

Yes, this is very common during perimenopause. Both symptoms are driven by fluctuating estrogen — your cycle becomes unpredictable as ovulation gets irregular, and the same hormonal shifts disrupt temperature regulation. Try: tracking symptoms for 2–3 cycles, magnesium in the evening, and let me know if sleep is also affected. 💜
